Beasts of No Nation

Director of Netflix’s feature movie-Beasts of No Nation, Cary Joji Fukunaga and Idris Elba who star in the movie have stated that their dream and target is to get nominations at next year’s Oscars—and not some lame West African movie awards, called Ghana Movie Awards.

Yesterday, the Hollywood movie which was produced on about 6 million dollars swept 15 nominations at the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards with many of the local movie stars and filmmakers upset about the obvious bullying.

When the director of the movie- Cary Joji Fukunaga was contacted to find out about his nominations, he said; “I don’t know why Ghana Movie Awards will nominate my movie. Don’t they have movies in Ghana? Beasts of No Nation is not a Ghana movie and it is insult for them to tag us as one.”

He continued “we are looking forward to Oscars and not some lame Ghana Movie Awards. What will we do with that?.”

Idris Elba who plays Commandant in the movie also said “Ghana Movie Awards should celebrate its own local productions and not movies such as Beasts of No Nation which is out of their league. We are looking forward to Oscar nominations and therefore we don’t really care about Ghana Movie Awards’ nominations.”

He stated that “none of us will be there for the awards which should tell you that it’s not important to us.”

So far, Beasts of No Nomination has been nominated in almost all the global awards—with the wait on Oscars.
