Ayittey Powers-right

If you’ve ever wondered how come Ayittey Powers continues to call himself a boxer—considering his antics in the boxing ring and how he fails to put up a fight worth watching anytime there is a match, then Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) has also been contemplating on this.

According to the Association, they intended to ban Ayittey Powers after his first Accra fight with Bukom Banku but they decided to give him a second chance—hoping he will take the profession seriously.

However, in view of the no-fight he put up in Kumasi on boxing day in the well publicized fight with Banku, and his subsequent comments that he had a running stomach that’s why he was beaten mercilessly, they’ve concluded that Powers is a complete joke and a waste of people’s money as well as time.

Therefore, the Association has banned him for 3 years—he won’t be able to fight anywhere in Ghana or even comment on boxing.

The Association said in a press release signed by the acting General Secretary-Mrs Elizabeth Clottey that “while the Association is working over time to revive boxing in Ghana, Ayittey Powers is single-handedly setting back their efforts with his boxing gimmicks.”

“In fact, it is embarrassing to call him a boxer because even if I train for just 40 minutes, I can knock him out in the ring—and for a boxer of his kind, this is unacceptable,” Mrs Elizabeth Clottey stated.

The concluding part of the statement read “From today, Ayittey Powers has been banned by GBA for 3 years following the board’s emergency committee’s deliberation.”
