Ghana School Feeding Programme

As part of measures to curb the number of teachers who have made it a habit to fight students over food in various basic schools, the Government of Ghaha has decided to inculcate operation ‘Feed the Teacher’ into this year’s Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

According to the first gentleman of the land, President John Dramani Mahama, it has come to his notice that many teachers in the rural areas fight with pupils over food. This, the president says is inappropriate and a shame to the teaching profession.

Speaking to ScrewLife.Com, the National Co-ordinator of the GSFP, Mr Seidu Adamu, said government has given his approval for the secretariat to add teachers to the School Feeding Programme.

“It’s unfortunate that numerous teachers fight with these children over food. They’ve always been complaining that it’s not fair for the government to be providing nutritious foods for the children while the teachers go hungry.”

“We want to assure them that government has heard their cry and is willing to add them to the feeding program this year.  Beginning next month, the government is making this a reality for teachers in the rural areas. This, its doing in collaboration with World Food Programme (WFP).”

“Government wants to put an end to this thing once and for all and we think it’s a step in the right direction. Government is sure that this initiative would motivate teachers to teach effectively,” Mr Adamu said.
