Prisoners in Nsawam to Be Transferred to Closed Down Prisons in Holland—Director of Ghana Prisons Confirms
There certainly is a beautiful and positive side to everything. Whoever said going to prison do not have its sweetest part must get his butt down that tunnel to enjoy the glamour that couples prison life.
As prisoners population surge in Ghana with overcrowded cells, the opposite is happening in the Netherlands.
Some Netherlands prisons’ have been forced to shut down due to diminishing crime rate in the country.
The country is actually to close eight prisons because of a lack of criminals, the Dutch justice ministry has announced.Declining crime rates in the Netherlands mean that although the country has the capacity for 14,000 prisoners, there are only 12,000 detainees.
One man’s trash indeed is another’s treasure—the situation in Netherlands has presented opportunity for some inmates at the Nsawam prison where inmates in the cells are so packed that a grit of sand would take eternity to find the ground.
Speaking to Starr Fm, the Director of Ghana Prisons confirmed the transfer.
“It is no rumour, I personally spoke to the Netherlands ambassador about our situation down here and he said we could use the empty prisons for as long as need be. The inmates who would be flown are those who put up the best of behaviour” he said.
According to him the prisoners are overly enthused and can simply not hide their euphoria. All they keep saying is at long last they would be served with a much “heavier” porridge ( goodbye to koko sakora).
“Only inmates who can speak Dutch are eligible for this transfer. We are looking forward to conduct the test right away to hasten the transfer.
