Galamsey

The Galamsey Workers Association (GWA) have petitioned President Akuffo Addo.

The petition which was presented by the President and General Secretary of the Association comes after the issue of “Galamsey” (illegal mining) gained a lot of media attention in recent times.

Kofi Arthur (President of the Association) said: “We are very unhappy with the kind of negative image the media is giving us. We are young people who are tired of living in poverty and want to live decent lives. Our family members are relying on us for daily bread.

We do not want to create any troubles in the country…”

According to John Addo (the General Secretary), the Association decided not to vote for John Mahama in order to put a stop to all the interventions he was planning to put in place in order to end Galamsey.

“We are very disappointed in Nana Addo. Does he think we voted for him to come and end Galamsey? He should give us a break!

We are giving him 5 days to issue a public order to let Ghanaians leave us in peace. If he fails to do this, we know what we have planned for him…” He said this in an interview with Citi FM.
