Justice Paul Dery

Justice Paul Dery

There are countless Ghanaians who have ample time on their hands to spare on unnecessary things and beleaguered High Court Judge, Justice Paul Uuter Dery, who seems to be on unending suing spree, may qualify to be one of them.

The High Court judge got the shock of his life when ace Ghanaian investigative journalist – Anas Aremeyaw Anas – exposed him and several others for trading justice with money in an investigative piece titled ‘Ghana in the Eyes of God’.

Even before premiering the highly anticipated video, Justice Paul Dery went haywire, taking several legal actions against individuals such as Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Bola Ray (CEO of EIB Network) and several others; an action many described as anomalous.

Not only that, Justice Dery also sued management of Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for allowing their outfit to be used for premiering the journalistic work, after an interlocutory injunction to stop the facility from screening it had been lifted.

Currently, Aljazeera is the latest addition in Dery’s suing list, reason being that, the Qatar-based TV network fearlessly aired the ‘unairable’ exposé – an act that goes against almighty Dery’s will.

Funny enough, the embattled judge has also summoned Mr. Robert Dwamena, acting Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to appear before court and explain why his outfit did not deem it fit to switch off light across the country on the day Aljazeera decided to broadcast Anas’ video.

In the suit, Justice Dery stated that, if ECG had not provided light on the day, many Ghanaians wouldn’t have seen the corruption scandal video. This, he termed as aiding and abetting.

According to him, he wouldn’t spare anybody who will try messing up with him so don’t be surprised if you hear we have also been sued.
