Grass cutter

This is a clear case of one man’s meat is another man’s poison…

In 2012, a BBC documentary looked at how West Africans, especially Ghanaians and Nigerians were breaking UK laws by selling and eating rat meat—when this kind of meat is forbidden and remains illegal in UK.

There were several African shops and popular markets in London where you could buy whatever bush meat you want, ranging from ‘Kusea’, which the whiteman calls Rat Meat to Squirrel.

At the time, Paul Povey, one of the UK’s leading experts in meat hygiene and inspections and a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, who examined the meat for the BBC said;

“It’s all illegal and hasn’t undergone health control, hasn’t been inspected and may well be contaminated.

“You’ve got to wonder about the contamination level of this meat that anyone’s bringing into their kitchens.”

Following the BBC expose, several African shops were closed down and others had to end the sale of these smokies—in order to stay within the law.

Three years down the line, these meats are back on the market—certain parts of Tottenham are filled with thick aroma of ‘Kusea and Akrantea’ soup these days. And the police have taken note.

Late yesterday, British Transport & Meat Police Officers stormed North London—causing panic, which led to several African shop owners who were breaking UK’s law on the sale of illegal meats closing their shops and vanishing into thin air.

Those where the lucky ones—but 3 others, Owusu Nsiah, Ofori Amanfo and Opanin Yaw Prempeh were arrested following the raid.

The police found several large portions of smoked ‘kusea and akrantea’ in their shops—and for the British police, those were rats, no two ways about that.

An eye witness on scene told ScrewLife.Com that, Mr. Opanin Yaw Prempeh tried to explain to the police that what he is selling is ‘grass cutter’, an expensive Ghanaian meat but the police said, that’s still a rat.

The shops of these 3 have been temporally closed down—and we are told they will appear before a judge next week. They face up to 10 years in prison for violating UK and EU regulations on the sale of illegal meats.
