Information received this morning from Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service says any driver who drives on empty stomach has committed a serious crime and ought to be punished as the law states.

According to the unit, most Ghanaian commercial drivers often drive while hungry and this a major cause of road accident in the country.

In an interview with Ghana’s authoritative online leg-pull news portal, ScrewLife.Com, ACP Agwumbutoge Awuni said many drivers do not know about this law because they do not take time to read the Road Traffic Act.

“It’s totally wrong for any driver in Ghana to sit behind the steering wheel while hungry. When hungry, you hear some crazy sounds made by the bacteria in the stomach. These bacteria distract your focus anytime you are hungry and driving. This can cause accident if care is not taken,” ACP Awuni told us.

He further stated that it’s expected of every driver in Ghana to eat to his/her satisfaction before starting a car.

According to ACP Awuni, the unit has taken upon itself to arrest and prosecute drivers who do not comply with this simple law.

“As the law states, any driver found guilty would serve a jail term of 10 years. The worst thing is, food won’t be provided to the offender while in jail because we already know he/she doesn’t like eating. I’m therefore entreating all drivers to eat before driving,” he concluded.
