Policeman

With a population of over 3 million, the capital city of Ghana, Accra, is the largest urban area of Ghana. Much of the criminal activities in the city involve breaking into shops and pick-pocketing people.

Gold jewelry is frequently the target of such crimes. Unfortunately for the criminals, residents often witness snatch and grabs and police officers patrolling the neighborhoods respond quickly.

This exact circumstance occurred Saturday morning when a 25-year-old man whose name was given as Moro Ibrahim grabbed a 3-foot-long golden chain off the neck of a woman on the streets of Tudu, a suburb of Accra.

A police officer who saw the crime began chasing the man. During the pursuit, Moro swallowed the chain, hoping to conceal his crime. After struggling for few minutes, the policeman managed to apprehend him.

After denying he was guilty of the crime, the officer took him to the 37 Military Hospital for x-rays, which revealed the chain in his stomach. Doctors at the hospital administered two purgatives but the outcome was nothing to write home about so they suggested surgery to retrieve the stolen jewelry.

However, after learning the surgery would cost over $5000, the brilliant police officer changed tactics and went to a local market, purchased over 200 fingers of banana which they proceeded to use in feeding the criminal throughout the day.

According to eyewitnesses, after consuming all the bananas, the criminal requested to use the toilet where he passed the necklace. Authorities therefore made him retrieve the jewelry from the toilet, clean and disinfect it before returning it to its rightful owner.

The thief is now in police custody.
