President John Mahama says all those who don’t believe he has never taken a bribe before as he said in his recent BBC interview are doing so because they are taking things out of context.

According to the Ghanaian President, what he meant when answering the question was that he has never taken a bribe as a human being; but as a politician, he has taken plenty.

“People are laughing because they misunderstood what I meant.” The President said in an interview with Al-Jazira to clear up the air.

“I have never taken a bribe as a human being, but as a politician, I have done so times without number”.

The President said the confusion over his words stem from people mistaking politicians for human beings.

“We are not human beings, not entirely.” He continued. “The rules apply differently in a politician’s skin, which we put on every morning before commencing the day.

“If we had to do some of the things we do as politicians in our human skins, our consciences would not allow us. That’s why it’s important that there is a divide between the two” he concluded.

So to the Ghanaians cackling with disbelief at his answer, the President has a simple rebuttal. “I was speaking as a human being at that moment.”
