Jerry John Rawlings, former President of Ghana who’s admired for his honesty has said the NPP’s government’s intention to celebrate Ghana at 60 is unwise, considering the fact that the country has nothing to really show for the 60 years.

Speaking on radio Gold this afternoon about the 30-member committee set up by President Akufo Addo to plan the Ghana at 60 celebrations scheduled for March, he said: “I heard Nana Akufo Addo say the celebration will be modest and yet he has put together a 30-member committee to oversee it, that’s not a modest celebration then if we need all these people to make it happen.”

He continued: “throwing a birthday party at 60 with so many unemployed graduates and nothing really to justify the party is not wise” and “the NPP government should not repeat the flaws of the Ghana at 50 at this early time of them being in power.”

Asked about what Ghana can do as a proper celebration in his estimation, he said, Ghanaians “can embark on a nationwide cleaning exercise and that wouldn’t cost us any money.”
