Deputy skipper of the Black Stars, Dede Ayew, has said that the players deliberately lost the last two matches because they did not want winning bonuses.

“We really wanted to win the trophy but after we heard Vice President Bawumiah saying that about GHC7bn was unaccounted for in the Government’s coffers and GHC13bn was being used to construct the official Vice President’s residence, we decided to lose the last two games in order to save Ghana some money,” he’s reported to have said while speaking to Joy Fm.

The Black Stars reached the semi-final of the AFCON for the 6th consecutive time but lost to Cameroon and Burkina Faso in the semi-final and 3rd place match respectively.
