After the gas explosion at Atomic Junction in Accra which claimed some lives and property, the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko has said that the government has plans of banning the use of gas cylinders in Ghana.

According to him, Ghanaians have put themselves in danger for a long time now especially when they have to carry gas cylinders around to filling stations just to fill gas.

“It’s about time we stopped that. It’s backward. So from June 2018, we will ban the use of cylinders. Between now and then, we will find sustainable means of serving citizens” he said.

However, Miss, Frances Essiam, CEO of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company has kicked against the proposed policy. According to her, this will make her jobless.

“If Ghana is going to ban the use of Cylinders, then there will be no need to have the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited. So I will become jobless. No! I won’t agree” She said in an interview with Adom FM.

We are yet to have an official statement from the presidency.
