President John Dramani Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State and with the approval of the Parliament of Ghana, is set to appoint Accra-based private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw as the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana to replace Madam Georgina Theodora Wood.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw who currently holds an undergraduate degree in law – LL.B (3rd class lower division) from the University of Loose Talk, Austria was admitted to the Ghana Bar Association in 1990.

Speaking to the outgoing Chief Justice Mrs. Theodora Woode who is expected to hand over to ‘Dr’ Ampaw, she stated that the Judicial Service is very pleased with the appointment and can’t wait for Lawyer Maurice Ampaw to take over.

“Most people see lawyers as flawless and brilliant individuals. Of course lawyers are brilliant and choose their words carefully. Fortunately for the first time, we are going to have a Chief Justice who can be used as a case study to tell the world that lawyers are also fallible human beings who are highly capable of spewing thrash at any given time,” Mrs. Woode said.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw in his pre-acceptance speech thanked the President for having faith in him. According to him, he’ll use the rich experience he has gained over the years as the manager of two of Ghana’s most notorious boxers, Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers, to bring some sanity to the judicial service.

He said, “I’m very experienced. I made Bukom Banku who he is today. I’ve managed Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Afua Schwarznager before and I’m currently the campaign manager for Donald Trump. I’m very sure these achievements amongst others informed the President’s decision to appoint me.”

Speaking to random people on the streets of Accra, an excited trader whose name was given as Madam Sarah Kwablah said, “that’s is a very good appointment by the President. With Lawyer Ampaw as the Chief Justice, everybody in this country will get the necessary justice they deserve. Even if you lie that you have been raped or sodomized, it will be investigated and if it’s found that it’s money you are looking for, you’ll be directed to DKM savings and loans for compensation.”
