Bukom Banku Begs President Mahama: ‘Tell IGP Not to Shut Down Social Media Please’
For the first time, Bukom Banku seems to be on the side of majority of Ghanaian social media users—he is not happy about Ghana’s Inspector General of Police’s bluff, intellectually bankrupt and technically impossible desire to shut down social media for the sake of 2016 elections.
Last week, the Inspector General of Police-Mr John Kudalor hinted said that, Ghana Police is considering shutting down social media services in the country on November 7, to avoid violence.
He said; “At one stage I said that if it becomes critical on the eve and also on the Election Day, we shall block all social media as other countries have done. We’re thinking about it.”
Today, trending Ghanaian boxer-Bukom Banku who is in bed with president Mahama has appealed to Mahama in relation to the intended social media blockage, saying, ” tell IGP not to shut down social media please. If he does so, I will not be able to upload photos or the videos I have been shooting everyday for you.”
Asked about what sort of benefits or what he uses social media for such that a shut down would affect him, he replied; “go to facebook and you will see me everywhere. I use social media more than every Ghanaian in Ghana. I am always taking photos and uploading for my fans who share and comment all the time. So me, I don’t support any ban. IGP should ban the stupid people insulting Mahama and me rather”
