Montie

Lawyers for one of the Montie Fm’s three musketeers-Mugabe, have filed a case at Accra’s Fast Track Human Rights court—praying to the court to allow convicted Mugabe who is due to spend the next 4 months in Nsawam to be allowed to take certain “basic but essentials” with him.

On the back of human rights, the lawyers have argued that; “our client has a peculiar dislike and allergy to mosquito bites and malaria is quickly capable of killing him because his white blood cells are not strongly effective. Therefore, we wish to apply for a special order so he would be allowed to take 6 boxes of Sasso Mosquito spray and a Mosquito net with him to Nsawam.”

“As a human, the only right he forfeits by virtue of his sentence is his freedom of movement and therefore if his health is at risk, necessary steps must be taken to ensure his sentence does not become inhumane or go beyond what the judges contemplated as punishment,” the filed document said.

The lawyers cunningly added that: “we are not by any means requesting for special treatment for our client but only asking that his special health need must be given a little more attention, as failure to do so would amount to a violation of his human rights and knowingly subjecting him to inhumane treatment.”

SL’s legal experts say, this order would more likely be refused for public policy reason—because if it’s granted, it would open a floodgate where those serving prison sentences would make similar absurd claims, grounding them in human rights.
